Unit 4: Creating movement to a piece of music

Students used their knowledge of the elements of music from their last unit and applied them to movement.  They chose a song and style of dance that they liked and tried to show a variety of movements that fit the music.

Friendships
My friends are Ngy meng, Sorriaj, Vatanak, Alex, and Xander.
My friends alway play games like zombie tag or zombie hide and seek. Sometimes they break up and play with other people. I like these games because it helps us exercise.
We always play mystery games like zombie tag or mystery tag or sometimes look at Pokemon.

G2 Music, Unit 3: Composing a song to tell the audience about an idea, feeling or story

Student explored the elements of music, such as tempo, pitch, dynamics and duration, to create a piece of music that would allow the audience to have an idea, feeling or story.  They started to work on this individually and later some students chose to work collaboratively.  Here is their final composition.

G2 Art-Unit 2- Nature and Architecture
We observed shapes in architecture and shapes in nature.  We investigated the functions (purposes) of nature and architecture.  We used our imaginations and feedback from friends or family to draw and build architecture inspired by nature.  Here is my artwork:

G2 Art- Unit 3- Finding and Making Meaning in Abstract Art
We found shapes, colors and lines in abstract artworks.  We discussed our experiences and emotions connected to the colors, lines and shapes.  We used this to guess the meaning of abstract artworks.  We sorted abstract artworks to explore how some are “a little abstract, very abstract or not abstract”.  We also made abstract artworks about ourselves for others to interpret.

Rube Goldberg
Question Prompts for Parents:

Who was Rube Goldberg and what is a Rube Goldberg Machine?
What was the objective or goal of your machine?
Was it successful? Why or why not?
Can you explain the simple machines you used to make it?

'Don't Crack The Egg Challenge'

In writing we are learning to write a procedure. In this example we completed a task related to our unit of inquiry (How the World Works - Simple Machines). We then wrote a procedure demonstrating what we did.
Title: American Ninja Warrior Egg Challenge

Introduction:

Task: We have to take the egg to the bottom of the floor from a chair without breaking the egg.

Need:

  • 3 papers
  • 1 meter ruler
  • 1 chair
  • Tape
  • 5 paper towels

Step:

  1. First I folded the paper to make a ramp.
  2. Next I put the tape to stuck the tunnel to the ruler.
  3. After, I checked if it is strong enough.
  4. Then it made my egg fall off.
  5. Finally I fix it,  then I tested it and it was worked.

Evaluation: I learn about to be creative and don’t break things like your favourite statue.

Playground Reflection

Unit: How the World Works - Simple Machines

Here is my drawing of the playground. I made a green screen and explained in my own words about the simple machines I saw.

Teacher Comment: You tried with this Stephen! You spoke clearly and identified some simple machines correctly. You muddled up the slide and the swing. While pointing to the swing you said it was a slide and was a lever. I think you just confused the words slide and swing. The swing is the lever and the slide is the inclined plane as you later explained. I like the way you  used words like 'push, climb, and pull' in your presentation, and said briefly how they worked.

Clues From The Past - Summative Assessment

Vishnu - Stephen
Form:
This is a statue made from stone. It was bigger than a real person and it was standing on a block of stone. The statue was a person with 4 arms. Each arm had a different object in it. These were the elements. The elements were fire, water, earth and wind. It had a big headpiece. The statue was a primary source of evidence because it is original and old.

Function:
I think that maybe the person who got this made believed in this god. The god is a hindu god. He holds all of the elements to protect the world and keep the world in order.

How This Helps Me Understand Cambodia
This helps me understand Cambodia because it shows that in the past people believed in Hindu gods. I found out that Hinduism is a religion like buddhism. There are many things in Cambodia like statues and carvings that show people believed in Hindu gods.

Music - My Song

How We Express Ourselves
Artist Statement - Stephen

“I like the art I saw of a King Octopus. It made me feel like it was the king of the ocean, it reminded my of an Octopus I saw at Siam Paragon. So I wanted to make an octopus. I used paper, glue, stapler, scissors, paint, googly eyes, string, a box, and a marker. I feel excited about my work. It is called Octopus”.

My Favourite Book - Smart Dad
"The book is about a smart dad who builds a boat. I chose it because I like it and I think building is a way to express yourself. When I read it to the class I felt excited. I tried hard and practiced at home"
