Unit 4: Creating movement to a piece of music

Students used their knowledge of the elements of music from their last unit and applied them to movement.  They chose a song and style of dance that they liked and tried to show a variety of movements that fit the music.

Student Led Conference

We shared our learning with our families on Friday.

Friendships
I like to play hide and seek spy WRB is a fun game. The people I play with are Stephen, Ngy Meng, and Kim Veng.
The most fun time I've ever had at recess was playing tag and hide and seek.
I usually spend time playing hide and seek tag at lunchtime because it is fun to play.

G2 Music, Unit 3: Composing a song to tell the audience about an idea, feeling or story

Student explored the elements of music, such as tempo, pitch, dynamics and duration, to create a piece of music that would allow the audience to have an idea, feeling or story.  They started to work on this individually and later some students chose to work collaboratively.  Here is their final composition.

G2 Art-Unit 2- Nature and Architecture
We observed shapes in architecture and shapes in nature.  We investigated the functions (purposes) of nature and architecture.  We used our imaginations and feedback from friends or family to draw and build architecture inspired by nature.  Here is my artwork:

G2 Art- Unit 3- Finding and Making Meaning in Abstract Art
We found shapes, colors and lines in abstract artworks.  We discussed our experiences and emotions connected to the colors, lines and shapes.  We used this to guess the meaning of abstract artworks.  We sorted abstract artworks to explore how some are “a little abstract, very abstract or not abstract”.  We also made abstract artworks about ourselves for others to interpret.

Rube Goldberg

Question Prompts for Parents:

Who was Rube Goldberg and what is a Rube Goldberg Machine?
What was the objective or goal of your machine?
Was it successful? Why or why not?
Can you explain the simple machines you used to make it?

'Don't Crack The Egg Challenge'
In writing we are learning to write a procedure. In this example we completed a task related to our unit of inquiry (How the World Works - Simple Machines). We then wrote a procedure demonstrating what we did.
Title: The egg Slide
Sorriaj

Introduction:My goal is to make the egg goes slowly from the seat of the chair to the floor without breaking using an incline plane.

Need:
  • 4 pieces of A3 paper
  • 1 meter long ruler
  • 1 chair
  • 1 hard boiled egg
  • Sticky tape

Step:
Make a tunnel out of A3 paper.
Attach the paper tunnel to the ruler.
Attach the ruler to the chair
Make cushion out of paper towels and put it on the floor in the end of the ruler.
Use the stick tape to fix the ruler for it not to move.

Evaluation:
To put tape so it do not break and not break the egg.

Playground Reflection

Unit: How the World Works - Simple Machines

Here is my drawing of the playground. I made a green screen and explained in my own words about the simple machines I saw.

Teacher Comment: You did really well with this Sorriaj! You spoke clearly and identified the following simple machines correctly;
Wheel and axel, inclined plane, levers, pulley.
I also like the way you explained force and used words like 'push and pull' in your presentation.

Preah bat Samdach preah Sisowath’s urn - Sorriaj

Form
The urn is made of wood, silver and copper.
Function
I learned that after the king Sisowath die Cambodia priest treated his body with secret essences to preserve. The they folded the body into an urn in the curled position of an unborn child symbolizing preparation for rebirth somewhere, sometime.
How does this help me understand Cambodia ?
This urn is a primary piece of evidence because it was made long time ago. Learning about this urn helped to understand my cultures better because I learned that Khmer people believe in many lives.
