Student Led Conference

We shared our learning with our families on Friday.

Friendships
My favourite place in the playground is the new playground place because it had monkey bar and every things. And I like sitting at the shade place.
A person I like spending time with from this class is Nith and Sounavann because they are easy to go along with and if we had a problem we always forget about it in ten minutes or just one day.

G2 Music, Unit 3: Composing a song to tell the audience about an idea, feeling or story

Student explored the elements of music, such as tempo, pitch, dynamics and duration, to create a piece of music that would allow the audience to have an idea, feeling or story.  They started to work on this individually and later some students chose to work collaboratively.  Here is their final composition.

G2 Art-Unit 2- Nature and Architecture
We observed shapes in architecture and shapes in nature.  We investigated the functions (purposes) of nature and architecture.  We used our imaginations and feedback from friends or family to draw and build architecture inspired by nature.  Here is my artwork:

G2 Art- Unit 3- Finding and Making Meaning in Abstract Art
We found shapes, colors and lines in abstract artworks.  We discussed our experiences and emotions connected to the colors, lines and shapes.  We used this to guess the meaning of abstract artworks.  We sorted abstract artworks to explore how some are “a little abstract, very abstract or not abstract”.  We also made abstract artworks about ourselves for others to interpret.

Rube Goldberg Machine

Question Prompts for Parents:

Who was Rube Goldberg and what is a Rube Goldberg Machine?
What was the objective or goal of your machine?
Was it successful? Why or why not?
Can you explain the simple machines you used to make it?

'Don't Crack The Egg Challenge'

In writing we are learning to write a procedure. In this example we completed a task related to our unit of inquiry (How the World Works - Simple Machines). We then wrote a procedure demonstrating what we did.
Title: The Crazy Egg Drop

Introduction: My goal is to get a hard boiled egg to get down to the bottom of the chair.
Needs:
  • 1 hard boiled egg
  • 1 meter ruler
  • 10 paper towels
  • A3 paper
Steps:
  1. Take meter ruler stick to the chair down on the floor.
  2. Take 6 paper towels stick to ruler to make friction.
  3. Take A3 paper and fold then stick onto the slide on ruler.
  4. Take marble and test if it doesn’t work make change until work.if you think will work try.
Evaluation:

If your has no crack at all you have success!

Playground Reflection

Unit: How the World Works - Simple Machines

Here is my drawing of the playground. I made a green screen and explained in my own words about the simple machines I saw.

Teacher Comment:  This was enjoyable to watch! It was clearly very challenging for you to orientate yourself with the mirror image on the screen. However, you didn't give up and smiled the whole time! What a risk Taker! You identified the following simple machines correctly; wheel and axel, inclined plane, lever, pulley. You also started to use verbs to describe how they move and introduced words like 'force'. A great start to your understanding considering this is the start of the unit. Well done!

Clues From The Past - Summative Assessment

Golden urn
Form
It was made of wood, copper and silver. It was made in the shape of a cylinder but with a pointy top. The urn was the size of a human and it was decorated with leaves and flowers.

Function
It was used to put the King’s body in wrapped up like a baby. Three months later they take the body to burn then put the ashes in the urn.

How does this help me understand Cambodia?
The golden urn was made especially for King Sisowath who ruled Cambodia from 1904 to 1927. This golden urn is a primary piece of evidence because it shows in the old days there were different funerals and rituals than in the present. The funerals were also different for Kings and important people. They used to put the body wrapped like a baby in the urn for 3 months. Then they would take it out to burn. The did this because they believed that then the person would be reborn. If they had been good in their life they would be born as something nice like a princess, but if they were bad they would become an animal or an object. I did not know that this was a Cambodian belief.

How We Express Ourselves
Artist Statement - Sophia H

IMG_7518.jpg

“My art is called flower Garden. I made it using paper, glue, glitter, and paint. I chose to do paper craft collage because it would be cool to make paper flowers and a garden. The garden theme was chosen because my front yard has a lot of flowers and plants and my Mom does a lot of gardening. The glitter I used is there to look like little streams. I was inspired by Jen Stark who makes art from paper”.
