G2 Unit 4: Creating movement to a piece of music

Students used their knowledge of the elements of music from their last unit and applied them to movement.  They chose a song and style of dance that they liked and tried to show a variety of movements that fit the music.

Friendships
My favourite place in the playground is monkey bar because my friends usually play there.
A person I like spending with in this class room is Nith because she is my best friend and she always play. The most fun I've ever had was playing dance Moms. I always play with Nith. We always play by the playhouse. I like it there because it makes me happy and I feel

like I have a friend. We like to eat snack and lunch together.

We like playing and reading and telling stories to each other.

G2 Music, Unit 3: Composing a song to tell the audience about an idea, feeling or story

Student explored the elements of music, such as tempo, pitch, dynamics and duration, to create a piece of music that would allow the audience to have an idea, feeling or story.  They started to work on this individually and later some students chose to work collaboratively.  Here is their final composition.

G2 Art-Unit 2- Nature and Architecture
We observed shapes in architecture and shapes in nature.  We investigated the functions (purposes) of nature and architecture.  We used our imaginations and feedback from friends or family to draw and build architecture inspired by nature.  Here is my artwork:

G2 Art- Unit 3- Finding and Making Meaning in Abstract Art
We found shapes, colors and lines in abstract artworks.  We discussed our experiences and emotions connected to the colors, lines and shapes.  We used this to guess the meaning of abstract artworks.  We sorted abstract artworks to explore how some are “a little abstract, very abstract or not abstract”.  We also made abstract artworks about ourselves for others to interpret.

Rube Goldberg

Question Prompts for Parents:

Who was Rube Goldberg and what is a Rube Goldberg Machine?
What was the objective or goal of your machine?
Was it successful? Why or why not?
Can you explain the simple machines you used to make it?

'Don't Crack The Egg Challenge'

In writing we are learning to write a procedure. In this example we completed a task related to our unit of inquiry (How the World Works - Simple Machines). We then wrote a procedure demonstrating what we did.
Title: Try not to break the egg
Sounavann

Introduction:
Our goal is not to break the egg when moving it from the chair to the floor.

Needs:
  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • ruler
  • 1 chair
  • tape

Steps:
  1. Tape the ruler to the chair
  2. Stick the paper on the ruler to make a wall so the egg doesn’t fall.
  3. Put a paper wall and tape it to the floor at the end of the ramp to catch the egg.
  4. Put some paper towels at the end to make it soft.

Evaluation:
I learn that  If I did not put the walls on my incline plane egg would break.

Playground Reflection

Unit: How the World Works - Simple Machines

Here is my drawing of the playground. I made a green screen and explained in my own words about the simple machines I saw.

Teacher Comment: I know it is hard for you to speak loudly, but you tried hard and tried hard to understand which way to point with the mirror image on the screen. You identified the following simple machines correctly; inclined plane, lever, and pulley. The next step would be to explain how these were used and what function they served.

Summative Assessment - Sounavann

Jayavarman VII

Form

What is it like?

It is a stone statue of Jayavarman VII

It shows him wearing a short cloth called a sampot Chang kin.

He is seated in the meditation position.

The statue is a primary piece of evidence because it was made close to when the king ruled.

Function

THe statue was made because he was a good king. It reminds us that he ruled CAmbodia. The statue helps us remember him. King JAyavarman VII ruled here from 1181 until 1218. His armies fought against the CHam. He built some important temples in CAmbodia.

This helps me understand Cambodia because:

KIngs have been very important to Cambodians. It is also important because the KIngs built things like Buddhist temples. tHis is important because in the past there were many other KIngs who were HIndu or other religions. He was a Buddhist. He wanted to turn Cambodia into a paradise. He helped build hospitals, bridges and roads. He helped make CAmbodia a great place.

Music - My Song

How We Express Ourselves
Artist Statement - Sounavann

IMG_7516.jpg

“I was thinking of winter and I really like winter, so I decided to make paper out of snowflakes. I wasn’t thinking of paint but I used paint because I thought about how cold it is and how I needed white and blue in the background. I have called it Snowflake art. I like it because it reminds me of Winter and Christmas, and how get what I want”.

Favourite Book - Goldilocks and the Three Bears

"I chose this story because it is about a girl who doesn't know it's not OK to use things that don't belong to you, but then she learned a lesson. I think the author is trying to tell us to not use things without permission. The artist helped show the story through pictures by using their imagination to draw what they think the story would look like."
