The purpose of these meetings is to discuss what hopes you have for your child this year and what
your concerns are. I have found Hopes and Concerns meetings very beneficial as a teacher and
parent.
As a teacher I am able to gain a better understanding into each student's social, emotional and
parent.
As a teacher I am able to gain a better understanding into each student's social, emotional and
academic needs from the perspective of the parent. As we are a month into the school year
I have been able to get to know each student, and with the knowledge from parents can deepen
this understanding.
As a parent attending the Hopes and Concerns meeting I have been able to talk openly to the

As a parent attending the Hopes and Concerns meeting I have been able to talk openly to the

and mention those worries you often have, what hopes I have for the coming year and help
strengthen the home/school connection.
Here are a few questions to help you prepare for the meeting:
If you are unable to attend the time slot you have been given, please let me know and we can arrange another time. Here are a few questions to help you prepare for the meeting:
- What does the school or teacher need to know about my child? i.e. allergies, health concerns, etc
- Is there anything my child seems worried about?
- Are there areas that I think my child will need special assistance with this year?
- Does my child have a special interest of strength that their teacher should know about?
- What hopes do I have for my child this semester?
- What concerns do I have for my child?
Kind regards
Karyn

16th August
Thank you to the parents who attended our back to school night last Thursday. It was wonderful to meet you all. Teachers discussed their class schedules, communications, where to access information on the blog, and the class Essential Agreements. There will be further meetings in the near future focusing on parent networking, curriculum and workshops. We hope to see you there! Please do not bring anything more (no drinks, gifts, or goody bags). We will ensure your child is made to feel special on their special day.
Class Timetable : Room D102 Karyn Templeton / Muyhour TA
Please note this schedule is flexible. Specialist subjects (in colour) should remain the same for the semester, but the class programme is flexible and is adapted according to the needs of the class, curriculum coverage etc. The important times for you to note as a parent are the PE days, as children require specific uniform.
Everyday: Bring your hats, sunscreen, and reading folder.
Tuesdays: Swimwear and goggles.
Wednesday and Friday: PE uniform, and running shoes.

Welcome letter - 5th August 2015
Dear Parent / Caregiver,
Hello. I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday. My name is Karyn Templeton, and I am your child’s grade two teacher. It was fantastic to meet a few of you at yesterday’s orientation. I apologise to those I missed. I am looking forward to working with you over the course of the year to support your child’s education. I am pleased that semester one is underway and I am really excited about getting to know your child better in the school year ahead.
I feel privileged in my role as a teacher, and love my job! Although this is my first International School teaching position, I have been working as an educator in New Zealand for many years in both teaching and leadership positions. I also worked in Brighton, in the United Kingdom for a short period of time. I have loved learning and living in New Zealand, and now look forward to exploring this diverse and fascinating country.
Homework will be given out on a Monday and collected on Fridays. It will be kept as relevant, enjoyable, and achievable as possible. Students will also be sent home with fluency or library books, depending on their levels and interests.
The other class teachers in our Grade 2 level team are Ms. Courtney (team leader) from Australia, and Ms Anita who is British. We our also supported by a wonderful group of teaching assistants – Mrs. Muyhour (who will be working in our classroom), Ms. Yin, and Ms. Daly. They are an experienced group of assistants who are very approachable and happy to assist with translation if necessary.
Communication
I realise that you are the most important influence in your child’s life, and our partnership in educating them is extremely important.
As a team we usually communicate electronically with parents and students. All students will be given their own ISPP Gmail account and password that they can use for communication within the ISPP network. In order to make communication as easy as possible we need an e-mail account that you access regularly. Please let me know if it is different from this one, either by e-mailing me or by filling out the form below. I would appreciate if you can let me have this information by Monday 10th August.
I am happy for you or your child to e-mail me with any questions as they arise. If you need to speak to me about something important it is always best to make an appointment for a meeting, just drop me an e-mail and we can arrange a suitable time. My e-mail address is:
Blog
Information about the class will be regularly updated on our blog. I would kindly ask that you sign up for RSS feed so you get regular updates.
Timetable
I will upload a copy of our class timetable to the blog by the start of next week. In the interim, these are some important weekly events you may wish to note:
Swimming - Tuesday 1.45 to 2.30 pm (Bring swimwear, goggles, and a towel)
PE - Wednesday 10.10 -10.50 am, and Friday 8.15 -9.00am (wear PE gear and sports shoes on these days)
Art / Music / Library - Thursdays (starting week two)
Children need to come prepared to school each day with a hat, sunscreen, a healthy snack (fruit), and water. They may also wish to bring their own pencil case.
If you do have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to working alongside you and your child. I know the children are excited about getting back together with their friends and joining our exciting new campus. We are also keen to meet the many new students who are joining ISPP this year.
Best wishes,
Karyn Templeton IB PYP Grade 2
