Student Led Conference

We shared our learning with our families on Friday.

Friendships
I play with some fourth graders because they play cool running games and I love sport. And sometimes we play gymnastic in the inside gym and people I like spending time with are Nina and Aala. I feel very happy when I play with them. At lunch time I usually sit the same table with them and we enjoy having lunch together very day. The most fun time is when we do hand stand competitions.

G2 Music, Unit 3: Composing a song to tell the audience about an idea, feeling or story

Student explored the elements of music, such as tempo, pitch, dynamics and duration, to create a piece of music that would allow the audience to have an idea, feeling or story.  They started to work on this individually and later some students chose to work collaboratively.  Here is their final composition.

G2 Art-Unit 2- Nature and Architecture
We observed shapes in architecture and shapes in nature.  We investigated the functions (purposes) of nature and architecture.  We used our imaginations and feedback from friends or family to draw and build architecture inspired by nature.  Here is my artwork:

G2 Art- Unit 3- Finding and Making Meaning in Abstract Art
We found shapes, colors and lines in abstract artworks.  We discussed our experiences and emotions connected to the colors, lines and shapes.  We used this to guess the meaning of abstract artworks.  We sorted abstract artworks to explore how some are “a little abstract, very abstract or not abstract”.  We also made abstract artworks about ourselves for others to interpret.

Rube Goldberg Machine

Question Prompts for Parents:

Who was Rube Goldberg and what is a Rube Goldberg Machine?
What was the objective or goal of your machine?
Was it successful? Why or why not?
Can you explain the simple machines you used to make it?

'Don't Crack The Egg Challenge'

In writing we are learning to write a procedure. In this example we completed a task related to our unit of inquiry (How the World Works - Simple Machines). We then wrote a procedure demonstrating what we did.

Title: try not to crack the boiled egg challenge (MiMi)
Introduction: our goal is to try to get a boiled egg down from chair with an incline plane without it breaking.

Need:
  • 4 papers
  • 10 paper towels
  • 1 chair
  • 1 meter ruler
  • 1 pad

Steps:
First, you get a ruler and a chair place a ruler on the bottom of the chair shape like incline plane.
Next, you put A3 paper on top of ruler shape as a wall.
Stick them together and put sellotape under the A3 paper and tape the top and bottom of the ruler.
Then, you put 3 layers of paper towel and put A3 paper around the paper towels to catch the egg.
After that you test your incline plane with the boiled egg.
Finally, you are done!

Great job everyone!

Playground Reflection

Unit: How the World Works - Simple Machines

Here is my drawing of the playground. I made a green screen and explained in my own words about the simple machines I saw.

Teacher Comment: You did really well with this Mimi! You tried hard and did well understanding which way to point with the mirror image on the screen...this was tricky! You identified the following simple machines correctly; inclined plane, lever, pulley, and wheel and axel. The next step would be to explain how these were used and what function they served.
Clues From The Past - Summative Assessment

Nandin - Mimi
Form: I chose this bull statue because his name means happy. He has a third eye on his forehead, Shiva the God has one too.
The statue is made of stone. It is a happy Hindu Bull that is used as a way of transport for the Hindu god Shiva. Shiva would sit on his back. It’s a fat bull. The statue is an original and it is old which makes it a primary source of information.

Function:
I think it was made because it helped people remember the Gods. Hinduism was an important part of Cambodia and there are some temples in Angkor Wat that were once Hindu temples. Angkor Wat was later changed to a buddhist temple.

This helps me understand Cambodia because:
It shows me that things like religion have changed. Every religion has different statues or ways to remember their gods. For example, in my religion Christianity, you have a cross to help us remember Jesus.

In the past this statue was important because many people believed in hinduism. Now 95% of Cambodian people believed in buddhism.

How we Express Ourselves
Artist Statement - Mimi

IMG_7460.jpg

“ My art was melted crayon art. I decided to call it rainbow because it kind of looked like the colours of the rainbow. I chose to do this because it makes me feel happy, reminds me of a colourful rainbow, and I just liked the way melted crayon art looked. My big idea was that it would look like it was raining colours”.

I Don't Have Your Eyes

" I chose this book because it tells us that everyone is different. That is the message the artist is giving. I like it because it gives me a nice feeling and reminds me of my family"
