Friendships
My favourite place in the playground is the new playground because it is fun to climb.
A person I like spending time with from this class is Mimi, Hana and Yewon because they are special friends.
The most fun I've ever had at the recess was when I did gymnastics.

Rube Goldberg

Question Prompts for Parents:

Who was Rube Goldberg and what is a Rube Goldberg Machine?
What was the objective or goal of your machine?
Was it successful? Why or why not?
Can you explain the simple machines you used to make it?

G2 Music, Unit 3: Composing a song to tell the audience about an idea, feeling or story

Student explored the elements of music, such as tempo, pitch, dynamics and duration, to create a piece of music that would allow the audience to have an idea, feeling or story.  They started to work on this individually and later some students chose to work collaboratively.  Here is their final composition.

G2 Art-Unit 2- Nature and Architecture
We observed shapes in architecture and shapes in nature.  We investigated the functions (purposes) of nature and architecture.  We used our imaginations and feedback from friends or family to draw and build architecture inspired by nature.  Here is my artwork:

G2 Art- Unit 3- Finding and Making Meaning in Abstract Art
We found shapes, colors and lines in abstract artworks.  We discussed our experiences and emotions connected to the colors, lines and shapes.  We used this to guess the meaning of abstract artworks.  We sorted abstract artworks to explore how some are “a little abstract, very abstract or not abstract”.  We also made abstract artworks about ourselves for others to interpret.

'Don't Crack The Egg Challenge'

In writing we are learning to write a procedure. In this example we completed a task related to our unit of inquiry (How the World Works - Simple Machines). We then wrote a procedure demonstrating what we did.

Title: Try not to crack the boiled egg challenge
Boramey

Introduction: My goal is to try not to break an egg down from a chair with an incline plane.

Needs:
  • 1 meter ruler
  • 5 paper towels
  • A3 paper
  • Boiled egg
  • Cellotape

Steps:
First, get a chair and put it on a table.
Next, get a ruler and connect it to a chair.
After that, you put some paper towels. You stick a paper on it too because egg will go fast if you don’t put the paper on.
Finally, you put A3 paper like a wall at the end and your thing is done.
You put the paper there because it might fall or the egg will fall.

Playground Reflection

Unit: How the World Works - Simple Machines

Here is my drawing of the playground. I made a green screen and explained in my own words about the simple machines I saw.

Teacher Comment: You were certainly very animated in your greenscreen! Well done! You identified the following simple machines correctly; wheel and axel, inclined plane, lever, and pulley. It was great that you also noticed that the spring in the playground was used as a fulcrum for the lever on top...great job! The next step would be to explain how these were used and what function they served.

Summative Assessment - Clues From the Past

Form

The golden urn is golden it is like a giant jar and it's a weird shape.

It is golden in colour but is actually made of wood and copper with gold on top. Some other urns have real jewellery and are really shiny and colorful. They can be made from wood, copper, silver or gold.

Function

Urns are used to put the ashes of important people in. This golden urn was used to put the king Sisowath in. He was the king a long time ago. For important people, they would put the body in the shape of a baby ( (like it is inside the mother) because they believe that when people die they will be born again.

How does this help me understand Cambodia?
It helped me understand that in Cambodian culture, people believe that when people die they will be born again. Now in Cambodian culture when people die they will burn and put the ashes in the urn. I found out that the special urns are to put the ashes of good people in. They think people who are bad in life won’t be born again. This helped me understand that Cambodian culture is different to some other cultures. Not everybody believes that when you die that you are born again. Also some people are buried and not all are burned.

Music - My Song

Here is the link to the music blog where you will find a recording of me singing the song I created in music.

Artist Statement - Boramey

“I made a sun out of paper, that was the idea I had. I liked mosaic art so I wanted to try it. The type of art is paper mosaic. I used lots of coloured paper that I had to glue and stick to the page. I cut them into squares. It is called ‘Sunshine’.”

Spotlight on the Arts

We hosted a fantastic Spotlight on the arts evening with the art and music teachers before the holidays. We had many families visit and spend time working through the artistic process with their children. Children also shared their summatives from their ' How We Express Ourselves Unit'. It was a fabulous evening!

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

"I chose this book because I like fish, and also because I like to read. I like to talk so it was fun to read to the class. It is part of how we express Ourselves because Dr Seuss wrote it like a rhyming poem. The pictures are very clever too."
