Unit 4: Creating movement to a piece of music

Students used their knowledge of the elements of music from their last unit and applied them to movement.  They chose a song and style of dance that they liked and tried to show a variety of movements that fit the music.

Student Led Conference

We shared our learning with our families on Friday.

Friendships

At lunch I play with Yewon, Jodie, Jeean, Yilei, Vanessa, and Boramey and sometime Mimi but sometime when I play with Mimi and Boramey we do gymnastic outside gym at lunch time I usually spent time doing gymnastic with Boramey and Mimi in the inside gym.
We usually play in the huts near the stairs, and we usually play families.

G2 Music, Unit 3: Composing a song to tell the audience about an idea, feeling or story

Student explored the elements of music, such as tempo, pitch, dynamics and duration, to create a piece of music that would allow the audience to have an idea, feeling or story.  They started to work on this individually and later some students chose to work collaboratively.  Here is their final composition.

G2 Art-Unit 2- Nature and Architecture
We observed shapes in architecture and shapes in nature.  We investigated the functions (purposes) of nature and architecture.  We used our imaginations and feedback from friends or family to draw and build architecture inspired by nature.  Here is my artwork:

G2 Art- Unit 3- Finding and Making Meaning in Abstract Art
We found shapes, colors and lines in abstract artworks.  We discussed our experiences and emotions connected to the colors, lines and shapes.  We used this to guess the meaning of abstract artworks.  We sorted abstract artworks to explore how some are “a little abstract, very abstract or not abstract”.  We also made abstract artworks about ourselves for others to interpret.

Rube Goldberg Machine

Question Prompts for Parents:

Who was Rube Goldberg and what is a Rube Goldberg Machine?
What was the objective or goal of your machine?
Was it successful? Why or why not?
Can you explain the simple machines you used to make it?

'Don't Crack The Egg Challenge'

Title: Boiled Egg Experiment
Hana
In writing we are learning to write a procedure. In this example we completed a task related to our unit of inquiry (How the World Works - Simple Machines). We then wrote a procedure demonstrating what we did.

Introduction: Our goal is to get a hard boiled egg down an inclined plane without it cracking.
Needs:
  • A3 paper
  • About 1-15 paper towels
  • A box of boiled eggs
  • Tape
  • Scissors
Steps:
  1. First make a tube of paper and then put a ruler in it.
  2. Next make another tube around the ruler.
  3. Then connect the 2 tubes together.
  4. Next connect a small tube with a hole on the top.
  5. Then put 11 paper towels under the end of the ruler.
  6. Next make friction by putting 3 paper towels inside the tubes.
  7. Now make wall around the paper towels.
  8. Finally tape the walls together and test.

Evaluation:

If I didn’t put walls the egg will fall and crack.

Playground Reflection

Unit: How the World Works - Simple Machines

Here is my drawing of the playground. I made a green screen and explained in my own words about the simple machines I saw.

Teacher Comment:  Awesome job Hana! Considering this was done at the start of our unit of inquiry, you have already demonstrated an understanding of simple machines and are starting to explain how they are used. You did well understanding which way to point with the mirror image on the screen. You identified the following simple machines correctly; inclined plane, lever, pulley.

Clues From The Past - Summative Assessment

Nandin - Hana

Form: I chose this bull statue because his name means happy. He has a third eye on his forehead, Shiva the God has one too.

The statue is made of stone. It is a happy Hindu Bull that is used as a way of transport for the Hindu god Shiva. Shiva would sit on his back. It’s a fat bull. The statue is an original and it is old which makes it a primary source of information.

Function:

I think it was made because people would say that the god Shiva would travel on the bull, so they made a statue to remember the bull. It may have been made for a Hindu temple to remember the religion and it’s stories.

This helps me understand Cambodia because:

It helps me understand Cambodia because I used to think Cambodia had nothing to do with Hindu religion. I thought it was buddhist. But now I know that Hinduism has been here for a long time. We know this because there are many statues of different Hindu gods in Cambodia in museums. I found out that one of the biggest Hindu temples in the world is in Cambodia at Angkor Wat.

Favourite Book - Pete the Cat
In class we have been bringing in our favourite picture books to share. We started doing this today! Hana was the first child to share her book. We will post pictures and their reflections when they share.

"This is my favourite picture book. I like it because it is linked to our previous UOI and our UOI that we have right now. It tells us how to calm down by seeing good in every day. The magic sunglasses changed peoples perspectives...this is one of our concepts in How We Express Ourselves. I felt proud when I read to the class because I was the first one to read."
