Sun Safety Home Learning

ISPP students all received a new hat today with their name embroidered on it. They look very smart in their new gear! We looked closely at the dangers of uv rays, and reviewed some important sun safety messages. As a comment write down something interesting you learnt about being sun smart, or respond to one of the questions below.

What are the five S's of sun safety?
Why is it important to avoid getting burnt?
The sun is dangerous but it is also important to get some sun exposure, explain why!
Explain how animals protect themselves from the sun in different ways.

Feeling inspired? You could also write your own sun safety rap, poem, or song to share with us,
or make a poster for the class including the 5 S's.

    1. You are quite right! I wonder if anyone can add what we do with each of these? e.g. slide on ___________, slip on a __________.
Sometimes in advertising campaigns the verb 'Seek' is used instead of 'Shade'. What does seek shade mean?

  2. It is important to not get sunburned because it makes your skin red and sometimes it also makes you feel sick.

    1. Too much sun can leave you feeling unwell or sore. Can anyone inquire into other more serious problems than too much sun exposure can cause? Lets add these ideas here. Great start Hana!

  3. You need some sunlight but not too much because the sun has UVA rays and UVB rays which is bad for us.

    1. Interesting point Hana. Can anybody tell me what these two different types of rays do, and what does sunlight give us that our body needs?

  4. Elephants and hippos cover themselves with mud. The mud acts like sunscreen on a hot day. Merkats have black rings around their eyes that soak up the sun. The black rings around there eyes acts like sunglasses.
