Making Bread

The other week, we made bread. Srey Neang (Lucas's mum) came and shared her expertise with the grade 2 children. They loved exploring the process of how bread was made, and each made their own bread roll. They were simply delicious!

Moo Moo Farms

Our visit to Moo Moo farms was fantastic. To find out more about the farm click here

Today we went to Moo Moo Farms in Phnom Penh. We went by bus. It was really smelly...(the farm, not the bus!) Hana

The farm is owned by Kenneth Matthews and Matthew Boyd. They are from America. Mimi

The cows in this picture are eating. They are fed corn, hay, grass and grains. Sorriaj and Ngy Meng
The animals in this picture are only calves. They are big enough now to eat hay but they still get their mothers milk. Wadia.

The cows would not have any milk if they did not have babies, so that is why the farmers let them have calves. Boramey.

This man is Kenny Matthews, he is holding a milking machine. They use suction cups to get the milk from the cows udder. Sophia H

I learned that the cows are milked every day. Lucas.
I found out that milking the cows does not hurt them. When their udders are full of milk it hurts, so they like being milked. Yewon

As we were watching the cows, I noticed something really creepy! When the cows looks straight ahead their eyeballs are not in the middle. Sophia M
It was funny how the cows kept licking their noses. Nith
One of the cows licked Ms Karyns bag. Hana

The weeks are rolling by!

Three weeks of school left and I have to farewell my awesome Grade Two class! We have been insanely busy! Here are a few pictures of what we have been up to.

On Friday Mr Andy from Epicure came and talked to grade two about food production and distribution. We gained some valuable insight into what goes on behind the scenes at our cafeteria. Thank you Mr Andy.

In mathematics we reviewed our understanding of basic fractions. Here are some of our pizza parlour problems.

We have now had our third minecraft session to our unit. This valuable learning engagement had allowed learners to experience real life situations from farm to marketplace that Mr Matt has created for us. We can't wait for our session next week.

We completed our research into staple food crops. These are ready to present to the class. We completed some artworks on the food crops we investigated.

We loved our 'Wheat production simulation'. In this activity we were assigned roles as farmers, transporters, millers, bakers, shopkeepers, or bankers and had to work through the production process, creating, buying, and selling goods. It really helped us understand food production better and there was some fantastic mathematical thinking happening around profit margins and sales tactics!

Last week we worked in groups to present our Reader's Theatre scripts. It was fun to practice communicating confidently with the audience.

Whats Happening in Grade Two?

We have been busy over the past few weeks! In PE we are loving taking gymnastics. Here are a few pictures of us in action!

During writing we have been learning to express ourselves through poetry and have been using our imaginations to write out own mini picture books. We enjoyed sharing these with each-other.

Many of us attended the Art Auction on Saturday. Our classes beautiful artwork was won a a student in Ms Courtney's class. It was a wonderful event!

We are currently delving deeper into our 'How We Organise ourselves unit -Food as Resource'. In pairs we are investigating important staple crops of the World and fining out how they are grown, produced, distributed, and used. Later this week we will present our findings to the class.

Earth Day

On Friday we reflected on what we can do to help our planet. Children participated in a meat free lunch while they watched the grade 3 flashmob on 'Earth Day'. In class we dressed in green, completed some mathematics activities on a Earth day theme, drew posters about why we love our planet, listed action we can take using the magnetic letters, and went on a classroom scavenger hunt about nature. It was a great day.

Earth Day Action

On Friday the school is encouraging everyone to have a meat free lunch as part of Earth Day. Please discuss the benefits of this with your child. Remember to dress in green!

Unit Vocabulary

Ms Tatiana spent time with us today helping us develop an understanding of some of the vocabulary in our 'How We Organise Ourselves' unit. They explored the meaning of words that will be important during this inquiry including;

Distribution
Production  is making or growing the food products.

Challenge
the situation of being faced with a problem

Opportunity
a time or set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something
Opportunity
Resource
A stock or supply of  food, goods or materials we need for people to have a good life.

Resource

Learners then demonstrated their own understanding of the words using a mind map.

Thanks Ms Tatiana!
